Quick answer

Pair the cabaret night with something by day. A three-hour cruise along the Protaras coast swims at Konnos Bay and the Blue Lagoon; a half-day jeep tour reaches the sea caves and arches around Cape Greco; and a full-day red-bus trip crosses to Famagusta’s walled old town and the abandoned resort of Varosha. Each can be cancelled without charge a day ahead when booked through GetYourGuide.

The Blue Lagoon cruise

A traditional wooden boat runs along the Protaras coast on a morning sailing or an afternoon one timed for the golden hour, three hours in all. It passes Famagusta for a view of Varosha, then Fig Tree Bay, Konnos Bay, a clifftop church, the sea caves and a natural rock arch, with swim stops at Konnos Bay and the Blue Lagoon. A bar and snacks are on sale on board, and snorkelling gear is available against a refundable deposit. The weather and the captain can change the route.

Cape Greco by jeep

A half-day off-road tour in a Land Rover Defender heads for the coast around Cape Greco, the headland between Ayia Napa and Protaras: sea caves, natural bridges, small chapels, a climb to a viewpoint and free time to swim at a bay. Pickup from your accommodation is included within the operator’s pickup area. The vehicles have seatbelts but no air conditioning, refreshments cost extra, and the operator advises against the trip if you have back problems.

Famagusta and Varosha by red bus

The longest of the three is a full-day trip by open-top red bus, covered in bad weather, through the Red Villages and across the line into the north. It allows free time in Famagusta’s walled old town, with its Venetian walls and the cathedral that became the Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque, a guided visit to Varosha, abandoned since 1974, and time on the beach. Bring a passport, or an EU ID card if you are a European national; some nationalities cannot enter the north, so read the booking page before paying.

How to fit them around the show

The cabaret is an evening out, so it pairs best with a day that does not run late. The morning cruise or the half-day jeep tour leave the evening free. The red-bus day is long, so keep the show for another night. The afternoon cruise may run close to a show pickup, and each date carries its own times, so compare calendars before you put both on the same day.

Which to pick if you only have time for one

Each answers a different question about this corner of Cyprus: what the sea is like, what the coast looks like up close, and what lies on the other side of the line. Like the cabaret, all three can be dropped without charge a day ahead through GetYourGuide, so a change in the weather costs you nothing.

  • Swimmers: the cruise, for the Blue Lagoon and Konnos Bay
  • Photographers and walkers: the jeep tour, for the caves and arches
  • History readers: the red bus, for Famagusta and Varosha

Free things nearby

Not everything needs a booking. Ayia Napa’s monastery sits in the town centre and now houses a museum; the fishing harbour is lined with painted boats; Fig Tree Bay at Protaras is a public beach where access is free, though sunbeds are charged. The cliffs of Cape Greco are reachable by road and make a fine place to watch the light change before a night at the cabaret.
